Who we are
Nanine Alexander is a retired journalist whose career includes The (Portland) Oregonian, The Wall Street Journal and Essence Magazine. After an early retirement, she returned to her first love of art, taking classes at Gage Academy in Seattle and the Oregon Society of Artists where she also helped organize painting and drawing workshops.
Tamsen Wassell (Wassell Enterprises, Inc. LLC) is a management consultant who has operated her Portland-based firm for more than 25 years. In that capacity she has organized and facilitated retreats and workshops for large corporations thoughout the United States.
The two became semiretired Barcelona residents, where Nanine attends the Barcelona Academy of Art and Tamsen commutes to her Portland office.
Classically trained Swedish-born painter Joakim T.S. Bergstrom says that the theme of his work is always the same, "the magnificence of the great wild outdoors, my love for nature and the earth."
"I try to keep the work as sincere as I can, because I find that the results are more descriptive of what art means to me."
"(Joakim) is an impassioned, tireless landscape painter — in true love with nature. As a teacher he is gentle and patient with a big heart." — Gerard Castellvi Gasco, painting professor at Barcelona Academy of Art.
"I think he will do a great job! He is a good painter and a nice guy."— Joe Altwer, drawing and painting professor for Barcelona Academy of Art.
